NOW IS THE TIME

Now Is the Time

For he saith, I have heard thee in a time accepted, and in the day of salvation have
I succoured thee: behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of
salvation.  ( 2 Corinthrin 6:2 )

When I read this verse, I am reminded of the well-known expression “Time waits for no man“. Time progresses forward unhindered by the affairs of men. There are moments in our experience, though, when time seems to stand still.

I recall being a witness to a car accident as I was driving home from work. It was a    very surreal experience as I helplessly watched a car run a red light and collide with an oncoming vehicle completing a late left-turn in the intersection. Thankfully, no one was killed.

On other occasions time seems to creep by ever so slowly. For instance, when I was in elementary school, my 2 months of summer holidays seemed to last forever. The days appeared to go by so slowly and there seemed no end to the hours of “fun in the sun.”

Still, in other instances, time seems to go by ever so quickly. This is the case now as I grow older. It amazes me how fast the days, weeks, and the months go by. Before you know it another year has passed, and you are one year older. Moreover, it gets harder keeping track of exactly when past events occurred in your life. What seemed to have taken place 2 years ago actully occurred 5 years ago.

A retired Christian friend told me not too long ago that, “It gets worse the older you get.” The Word of God sums up our life very well in James 4:14, “For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away.

Life truly is short, and God expects you to prepare yourself to meet Him when you die. Few things in life are certain: death is one of them. Friend, to avoid suffering in Hell after death you need to have your sins forgiven. Accepting that Christ died on the cross for your sins personally is the only way you can be saved from God’s righteous judgment against sin. Hebrews 2:3 tells us that there is no escape from judgment if you turn your back on God’s great and merciful salvation.

The world in it’s rebellious, sinful ways would say “Carpe diem,” an expression meaning seize the day–that is, “live it up, forget about God, and enjoy yourself.” This attitude is folly and will only lead to eternal misery. We can, however, use the expression Carpe diem literally in light of our scripture verse, 2 Corinthians 6:2.

Friend, if you want to be saved, God expects you to put your trust in His Son NOW without delay. As you read this verse, this could be your last opportunity at getting God’s salvation. Putting off the decision to accept Christ as your Saviour could be fatal, as death needs no forewarning. Trust Christ NOW for salvation and be saved for time… …and for eternity!
