The Action of Love

Listen to: The Action of Love

God demonstrates His love towards us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. ( Romans 5:8 )

Actions speak louder than words. The things that we do typically have a greater impact compared with anything that we could say alone. Think about a mother attempting to raise an infant without ever cradling her child in her arms, speaking only the words “I love you” from a distance. How preposterous!

While it is obvious a parent cares deeply about a child, that care naturally translates into a mother or father demonstrating that love by holding, feeding, bathing, and changing that infant. A loving parent selflessly sacrifices time and energy to nurture and raise that child. When a child misbehaves does that parent love the child any less? Of course not. Parents love their children, but are disappointed and upset by bad behaviour.

Friend, God loves us, the very creatures that He created from the dust of the ground, inspite of our sin. We see this wondrous fact in our lovely verse. Before considering His love, it is important to understand that your sin has grieved a holy, and righteous God, Genesis 6:5-6. Because of the perfect, holy and just character of God, He cannot overlook sin. Sin must be punished. Sin is what presently separates you from having a relationship with God. It is what will keep you out of Heaven for all eternity. Now, lets consider the love of God.

How wonderful it is that the holy scriptures, tell us that God saw us in our helpless condition, and decided to take action to save us from our sins–all because He loves us. The word commendeth in Romans 5:8 really means “demonstrates”.

God demonstrates His love towards us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.

God took extraordinary measures to provide forgiveness of sins to all by sacrificing His Son, the Lord Jesus Christ, upon the cross. It was there at Calvary that God unleashed His wrath and judgment against sin upon His sinless Son. The penalty for sin is death, Romans 6:23. Christ was punished and put to death for your sins. All you have to do is acknowledge your guilty, sinful, helpless condition before God and accept that Christ suffered, bled, and died on your behalf, 2 Corinthians 5:21, 1 Peter 3:18. God did all the work, 2 Corinthians 5:19. All you have to do is believe it. That’s the greatness of the love of God.

Repentance and faith in the Lord Jesus Christ and His finished work upon the cross means forgiveness of sins, peace with God and a home in Heaven–this is Salvation. Friend, escape future punishment in Hell for sin by trusting in Christ today and you will be blessed for all eternity.
