And the World didn’t end!

The costliest scientific instrument ever built was commissioned on September 10th. 2008 in Switzerland. It is called ‘The God Machine’, or Large Hadron Collider (LHC), built at a cost of $11 billion dollars.

It is designed to beam sub-atomic particles (protons) around a 25km circular underground tunnel, held on track by 1600 supercooled magnets, and accelerated by massive pulsed electrical fields. It uses as much electricity as a large city when operating. Scientists plan to replicate for a fleeting instant the colossal energies believed released in the Big Bang, a theory they promote for the beginning of the universe!

Some feared that this machine could cause a ‘black hole’ that would destroy the world. On its first run a couple of small blips on a computer screen heralded a successful trial, causing great applause in the control room. And the world did not end!

On its second trial there was a leak of gas and it will be months before it can be repaired and put back in operation. A machine with a computer to record the results, designed and operated by man, cannot rise to the level of God’s understanding. Indeed the whole of creation shows God’s profound wisdom: “For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways, and My thoughts than your thoughts” (Isaiah 55:9).

Try to imagine the design features of the giant planets and the power needed for them to keep their appointed orbits, moving on their celestial journeys since the dawn of creation. Then think of the microscopic life forms with their amazing abilities to re-produce, feed and propel themselves in their tiny spheres. Add to this the human body, showing incredible design with amazing pro-creative abilities and organs that operate in some cases for over 100 years without any breakdowns or need for regular maintenance! Then add in the specialty food chain God has designed to sustain all living things, as well as the air we breathe and the water we drink.

How anyone could believe that random chance could produce the myriad life forms, place the sun and moon at the exact right distance from earth producing the seasons and also factor in the rain and sunshine. This highlights the futility of mans thinking and his desperate attempts to put God out of the equation. The Bible says that at creation, “For He spoke, and it was done; He commanded, and it stood fast” (Psalm 33:9).

Man’s puny attempts to replicate the mighty power of the Creator God in the LHC are doomed to failure. It is a colossal waste of money when people are dying of hunger and disease.

The Bible account in the book of Genesis tells us how it all began, and it stands as a revelation from God so that we can really know the great Creator God and how He made all things.

He is also intimately interested in you, and He has a plan for your life, and offers the gift of eternal to all who will accept it.
He sent His beloved Son into this creation to die for your sin. Jesus said: “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life” (John 3:16). Whatever way we look at it, He is a personal and amazing God.
