The great scientist, Sir Isaac Newton was the first to describe the solar system as consisting of many bodies each attracting the others in accord with the law of gravitation. As consequence of his scientific research, the possibility of an accurate prediction of the position of planets by mathematical means was discovered.
Isaac Newton was a Christian whose entire life of success in scientific research he attributed to his belief and trust in GOD. Newton was the first to describe the laws of motion and gravity affecting objects in space. In their movements, Newton saw the work of GOD the Creator.
Isaac Newton had a skilled mechanical craftsman construct a scale model of our solar system which on a large table he displayed in his home. Not only did the excellent workmanship simulate the various sizes the planets and their relative proximities around a large central gilded ball that represented the sun, but it was also a working model that was geared together by cogs and belts to move in precise orbital rotation when a crank was turned by hand.
One day, Newton was in his study when a friend, a colleague and scientist like himself, came to visit. The friend, was an atheist but recognized at a glance what was before him and stepping forward, he slowly turned the crank and with undisguised, enthusiastic admiration exclaimed, ”My! What an exquisite thing this is! Who made it?”
Without looking up from his book, Sir Isaac answered, “Nobody.” The visitor stopped his inspection of the model, turned and said, “Evidently you misunderstood my question. I asked, who made this?” Newton looking up replied once more, “Nobody made it, what you see just happened to assume the form it is in now.” “You must think I’m a fool!” said the visitor with a now more heated retort – “Of course someone made it, and he’s a genius, I want to know who he is.”
Laying his book aside Newton arose and placed a hand on his friend’s shoulder, saying, “This thing is but a puny imitation of a much grander system of laws that you know. I am not able to convince you that this, a mere toy, is without a designer and maker. Yet you, as an atheist profess to believe that the great original from which the design is taken has come into being without either designer or maker!”
The atheist that day was convicted and eventually became a true believer in GOD Who sent His Son into the world to seek and save that which was lost.
-GOD MADE IT-
The Bible states, “In the beginning GOD created the heavens and the earth.” Genesis 1:1 “All things were created by Him, and for Him…and by Him all things consist. “Colossians 1:16 & 17 “Thou hast created all things and for Thy pleasure they are and were created.” Revelation 4:11
“Because what may be known of GOD is manifest in them, for GOD has shown it unto them. For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse.” Romans 1: 19 & 20
All of creation declares that there is a GOD of creation and we are without excuse if we deny it. Men choose to deny the existence of GOD because of sin. Man sinned against GOD. “For all have sinned and come short of the glory of GOD.” Romans 3:23 As a result of sin all die being alienated from GOD. “It is appointed unto men once to die, after this the judgment.” Hebrews 9:27
Man seeks to do away with GOD, but still his great need is for reconciliation. GOD in His grace, mercy and love has provided the way of salvation. He sent His Son Jesus Christ into the world to die in the place of the guilty. As the substitute, Christ paid the full penalty for our sins and paid full price to purchase redemption right of us. His shed blood alone can cleanse from all sin.
If reasonable rational people can be so readily deceived as to the face of GOD and creation, how much more will they be deceived as to GOD’s way of salvation.
-CREATOR & REDEEMER-
GOD has made magnificent salvation and new creation to save all who will believe. GOD the great Creator-Redeemer GOD has provided the way out for every poor, lost sinner. Power can create stars but cannot cancel sin; love cannot act the expense of righteousness. The atoning death of Christ alone can cancel sin.
Many an individual has had to cry out as did Job, “Oh, that I knew where I might find Him – GOD.” And where is GOD to be found? Am I to look only for him in creation? Unquestioningly, GOD’s hand is visible there, but this is not enough for a lost, seeking sinner. A GOD only of creation will not meet and match the need of a lost sinner. The greatest hand of power is not enough for a wretched guilty one like me. I need; I want, a heart of love; in one who will answer and meet the deepest need in my heart and life.
It is true, I find a GOD of power in creation, and a GOD of justice in His holy law, but a GOD of love I find manifested only in GOD giving His Son, Jesus Christ.
The word of the Lord is creative and regenerating. It called worlds into existence and it calls sinners from death to life.
“By the word of the Lord were the heavens made.” Psalms 33:6 and by the word of the Lord dead souls are called into new life. The same voice which of old said “Let there be light”, must in every instance speak to the individual and say, “Let there be life.”
-BELIEVING GOD-
Abraham, believed GOD; it was not understanding GOD or believing things about GOD, but Abraham simply believed GOD Himself and that is what justified him.
Jesus Christ went purposely to the cross, suffered and died, being punished by GOD for our sin. “That whosoever believes in Him should not perish…” John 3:15 & 16
Since GOD has mercifully provided salvation for us so that we need not go to hell, the responsibility now lies with us to have a change of mind and believe Him.
GOD has not only created the universe, He has created you with a never-dying soul and spirit. The day is coming when “Each of us shall give account of himself to GOD.” Romans 14:12
Are you ready to meet your Creator?
“For GOD so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.” John 3:16
