THE LIFE WAS THE LIGHT OF MEN

The Lord of glory, Who, in the Person of the Man Jesus, when seen upon the earth, went down to a place called Capernaum, and there He shone so wonderfully that the people who sat in darkness saw a great light.
Jesus shone at Capernaum! He brought to the heart of men the light of heaven, that is, the control and influence from above. He brought that light right down into their darkness.
We are told in Matthew 17, that “His face did shine as the sun,” for His blessed face radiated the light of heaven there on the holy mount. And even unto today, hearts still warm under the influence of Christ, as they come under heavenly influence when He is near.
You say, How did He shine? John says that “the Life was the light of men,” John 1:4. Many think that words only are the light, and it is true that the entrance of God’s Word gives light, but the balance to that is in the scripture that says, “the Life was the light of men.”
It is not only what we may say in our speech, but what we are in life that is testimony also. Many wonder at what is to be understood by the expression “the testimony.”
Testimony is also expressed in the life of the Lord’s people who have the light, love and life of Christ!
We are members of Christ formed by the light; for He becomes life in us, and in the power of what is living, we are able to shine. We  become, “light in the Lord.”
At the time when Jesus Christ walked upon the earth, all around was moral darkness, but of the Man Christ Jesus, Who dwelt amongst men, it is said, “the Life was the light of men.”
“The  people that sat in darkness saw a great light,” for the Kingly majesty of Christ shone out in Capernaum from His life. And,
THERE IS NOTHING AS KINGLY AS KINDNESS, AND NOTHING AS ROYAL AS TRUTH!
It was demonstrated in His life!
And now it is the Christian’s responsibility and privilege to be light and life as a testimony to the world.
Friend, let us shine for Christ and be light in the Lord to the glory of God and for the benefit of our neighbours.
